Who am I?

Hello!
You can call me Baz/Bazza.

But, why the ‘mcbazza’, you ask? Do you MC on the side?
Hell no. It’s more of a McBazza, but, all lowercase.
The avatar?
Yep, that’s me. Comedy/geeky t-shirt. MTB. Cup of tea. Though, the hair may be more gray/sparse these days.

Who am I?
Just your regular I.T. guy that’s worked across most fields within I.T.
Started out on a ZX81, left school to become a VAX/VMS BASIC programmer, moved into sysadmin’ing, did network management/monitoring, DB stuff, web stuff, lots of storage/virtualisation/networking at enterprise/worldwide level. However, I still miss my Amiga.

Security has always been a big part of what I’ve worked with. But, you have to appreciate that in the earlier part of my career there wasn’t really any cyber/security dept. That was handled by the infrastructure team within I.T.

I made a concerted effort in about 2018 to start focusing specifically in cyber-security, hoping for an eventual shift into it.

Obviously, I knew about [ethical] hacking / pen-testing / offensive security. But, wasn’t something I knew much in detail about. Just seemed like dark arts to me. Had no idea where/how to begin.

I stumbled upon this exact video. Specifically, jump to about 26min. Dan/Viss was describing me! That was the exact moment I started my cyber-security side-journey into offensive security!!

I signed up at https://www.hackthebox.eu/, bought some books, watched a ton of videos and started some hacking.

What’s coming?
I’m going to use this space to focus on the infosec/cyber things that I’ve previously done, or stuff that I’m currently working on.

I’m currently studying for OSCP, have been for most of this year. Had it on hold for a while, but, going back to it soon. Really should go focus on that!
